I want to talk about a recent experience that, for a short while, left me feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. Over the past couple of days, both myself and my family have been facing some tremendous personal hardships. However, as I find myself in a better place now, feeling inspired, I feel compelled to share my learnings with you.
Earlier this week I was still feeling very low and was looking for a step to take to begin moving out of this energy. What I’m about to share is a main key to supporting yourself through a challenging time. If you're going through a crisis or facing a problem without knowing what to do or who to turn to, always remember that you are not alone. In the most challenging moments, it's easy to believe that we are all alone. But the truth is, there is a power greater than yourself, who I choose to call GOD, a divine source, a loving energy surrounding us, even when we can't see or feel it. This presence is here to help us, even when we feel that we are not in touch with that Power. It's important to remember that we are not the only ones going through difficult times. Whatever problem we're facing, we’ve all been there. We all have our share of struggles. And as I share my own experience, I want you to know that you are not alone either.
When facing a crisis, it's crucial to reach out to others for emotional support. You must find someone you trust, someone who will lend a listening ear without judgment or offering quick solutions. Just knowing that there is someone there to listen and empathize can bring tremendous comfort. I had the courage to call a dear friend early in the morning the other day, and she picked up. Expressing my feelings, my hurt, and my devastation to her made me feel better. She not only listened but also shared her wisdom, experience, strength, and hope. I got a new perspective for looking at my situation. Having someone by your side, someone who supports you unconditionally, makes a world of difference.
Throughout these trying times, my faith played a vital role in keeping me grounded. I consciously maintained contact with my Higher Power, whom I refer to as "God." Through prayer, surrendering to his will for me, and placing my loved ones in a protective bubble of God's love, I found solace and reassurance. My friend reminded me of a lesson – to have faith and believe that this too shall pass. Her words served as a powerful reminder, and I felt a renewed sense of hope and strength. Turning to your faith and reaching out to your Higher Power provides comfort and guidance.
In the midst of chaos, it's also important to focus on actions that bring us peace and joy. Problems and crises are a part of life, but they don't have to consume us. Despite not feeling up to it, I made a conscious decision to take positive steps towards my dreams. I contacted a realtor and scheduled an appointment to pursue a second home, something that my husband and I have been talking about doing for a while. Something that brought excitement and happiness into my life. And you know what? I felt better because the meeting took me out of my misery, per se, and put me into my dream. That was a pivotal moment for me because even though I didn’t feel like following through with the appointment, I did it anyway and felt happier and lighter afterwards when I had shifted my energy from focusing on the crisis to focusing on something that gives me life.
Through prayer, meditation, journaling, and exercise, I nurtured my well-being and maintained a positive mindset the days following my phone call with my friend and the appointment with my realtor. During difficult times, it’s absolutely necessary to keep a self-care practice and remember to turn inward for strength. Even when I didn't feel motivated, I pushed myself to put on my workout clothes and go for a walk, which, no surprise, made me feel better. Engaging in activities that align with our values and bring us joy can help us regain our footing and build resilience.
Today is a much better day. If I really let go and let God lead the way, my life gets better. Whatever is going on, gets better. Going through “pain” or challenging times may not be any fun, but there is good in the challenges and pain. It brings forth a courage in us to keep moving forward and gives us lessons and learnings we might not have otherwise. The knowing that "this too shall pass" provides comfort too. Tough times are temporary, it will pass, even when they don’t feel that way. Trust that whatever problem or circumstance you’re facing, things are going to work out just the way they’re supposed to.
